Tracking stages in a success cycle when they're done in random order?

I'll try to make this as concise as I can...the TL;DR is that if I skip a stage in a SuccessCycle but complete the next one, the customer appears "stuck" in the skipped stage.

Our customers take training courses - let's say they're called A, B, C, and D. The courses don't build on one another, so customers can really take them in any order. I created a SuccessCycle to track a customer's progress through the courses. If the customer takes them in A - D order, no problem. But if they do "A", skip "B", then complete "C"...when I do SuccessCycle reporting it still shows the customer as being in stage B.
